Former Executive Director of the US-China Energy Cooperation Program
Ray supports Calera's business development initiatives with Chinese government and industry partners. Previously, Ray served as the Executive Director of the US-China Energy Cooperation Program (ECP) - a public-private industry-led partnership bilaterally endorsed by the US and Chinese governments - dedicated to the commercial deployment of clean energy technologies in both China and the US. Under Ray's leadership, ECP increased its membership to 50 leading American energy companies and facilitated the commercialization of US clean technologies with Chinese partners ranging from smart grid, clean coal, green building materials, industrial energy efficiency to biofuels. ECP's outcomes have been recognized by the White House and US Secretary of State John Kerry as a successful example of US-China bilateral cooperation.
Prior to ECP, Ray advised the World Bank, International Finance Corporation, and the Chinese National Development Reform Commission on developing financing mechanisms for clean technologies. Ray also led the World Resources Institute's clean technology business incubator in China and served as an advisor to the chairman of AIG Companies in China on clean technology investment strategies. Early in his career, Ray was a correspondent for the Economist Intelligence Unit and China Reporter for Hong Kong's South China Morning Post - covering China's energy and environmental industry landscape. A native of California, Ray holds a BS in Conservation Resource Studies from the University of California Berkeley and a MBA from Georgetown University.
