Calera has pioneered a new chemical technology platform known as ABLE (Alkalinity Based on Low Energy). In this technology, Calera combines electrochemical and catalytic processes to produce commodity chemicals at lower energy and cost than conventional production methods. The main product from the ABLE process is caustic soda, which can be used in Calera’s Beneficial Reuse of CO2 technology. The secondary product from the ABLE process can be a range of chlorinated chemicals, with specific focus given to the production of ethylene dichloride (the feedstock for the production of PVC plastics).
